Broad Street Makeover

In this AP photo from yesterday you can see that the center of Broad Street downtown has been cleared and landscaped. Until recently there was a hodge-podge of crumbling cement structures in the middle. [Too bad they took away the trees.]

And here's a postcard image from ca.1910 that looks like it might have been taken on Broad Street.

Is it not sad that as the rest of the civilised world is trying to preserve nature - Liberia seem to be alone at trying to destroy one of its most cherished asset - the trees that lined broad street. When are we going to learn?

Landscaped??? That's ridiculous. Who cuts down beautiful mature flowering trees and calls that landscaping? Whoever approved that plan should lose their job!
