Sex Scandal
Yesterday at the parking lot where I buy my newspapers, I spent $20LD for a single sheet printout of a funny photo that's been making the rounds. It shows what appears to be Presidential Affairs Minister Willis Knuckles, Jr. engaged in an orgy with at least two women. The story has been at the top of the news for the last few days, with Knuckles accusing ex-House Speaker Snowe of being behind the release, and refusing to resign. But Knuckles doesn't deny that it's him in the picture.

on the day we heard about this stateside I couldnt wait to hear what your views were on the topic. Not much...what is your sense and pulse of the people reactions in Lib to all that is going on.
it's a mixed bag, but the impact is pretty wide. there are calls for him to step down, of course. some of the churches are holding mass prayer sessions for him. a drunken ex-combatant kid who saw me buying the photo said indignently of him, "he's trying to bring the government down, trying to shame us all!" a couple of newspaper columnists have noted that it's an issue of exploitation of women, although we don't know that the women were prostitutes. one big controversy has been that the justice ministry ordered the arrest of the editors of the independent newspaper, who had printed the photo, on the grounds that it's distribution of pornography. the press union is up in arms about that. the people i work with have all seen the photo because it made the rounds on email. some of them think it's funny, and some of them are offended. one editorial was screaming that the president should be ashamed for remaining silent on the issue. he is the presidential affairs minister, after all. he will probably resign soon, but then my predictions for liberian politics don't usually come true.
