Lawmakers Show Little Shame

The House of Representatives has voted to reject a proposal that would have brought outside investigators to find the "ghost names" on its payroll. Apparently there are hundreds of redundant and non-existent persons on the House staff.

This follows a story last week where the House voted to remove itself from a requirement to follow anti-corruption financial guidelines set up by the government and its partners in the international community, the program known as GEMAP.

"Lawmakers"...did you mean "law-breakers"? I have very little respect for that mafia-like criminal gang currently operating in Monrovia. Their sole purpose is to legalize theft. The few legislators for whom I have great respect cannot be heard because there are, unfortunately, more corrupt individuals in the Legislature than honest people.

Although they are paid far more than legislators in other West African countries, they still augment their income through theft.

The so-called "Financial Autonomy" act is clearly illegal. The "Legislature" cannot assume an authority which it has not been granted under the constitutional. If they persist in their stupidity, the Supreme Court will rule their so-called act illegal. They would do well not to make a fool of themselves. Controlling budgets is a function of the Executive Branch, and not the Judiciary or the Legislature. What's next? Are they going to have their own court, police force and army. Perhaps they should declare the legislature an independent "country" and elect their own President.
